Under Canvas is the Perfect Glamping Way to Experience the Outdoors

Under Canvas in Page, Arizona

The idea of camping can be intimidating if you didn’t grow up staying in cabins or tents in the outdoors. It’s easy to shy away from it, but “glamping” (glamourous camping) offers the perfect happy medium. Under Canvas is an upscale camping experience provider with 10 U.S. that you need to add to your travel list.

There’s really no better way to experience some of the United States’ most beautiful wonders like Horseshoe Bend and Grand Canyon other than fully immersing yourself into the outdoor experience and going camping. Under Canvas’ campus and accommodations made me feel in touch with nature but also not far from modern day amenities like still having a normal shower, toilet, and mirror. One thing the tents don’t have is a heating/cooling system, but they do have a furnace (and small fans) which you light each night before bed. It warms up your tent so well that you don’t even remember there’s no heating system.

There’s also an indoor lobby with games, a restaurant, mini coffee shop, refrigerated snacks, and clothes available for purchase. The restaurant is open for breakfast (7am - 10am) and dinner (5pm - 10pm) and closed for lunch. Most people are out seeing Arizona and Utah’s sites during the day so it makes sense that they’re closed during the afternoon. The view from the outdoor seating area is peaceful and the best place to eat your meals. At night, they light the fire pits and offer smores for guests to enjoy.

One of the best parts about this location is that it’s minutes away from the Utah/Arizona border and isn’t far from all the beauty that both states have to offer. Five places I recommend to see are (of course) the infamous Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, Navajo Canyon, Glen Canyon Dam, and Lone Rock Beach. All are absolutely breathtaking to see and a must if you’re staying near the Utah/Arizona border. Each location was under 25 minutes from Under Canvas’ campus.

You have to book a reservation for Antelope Canyon, but for the other places, you can just drive up and pay the park fee (around $30). For Navajo Canyon, I recommend renting a boat and driving through the canyon’s waters. You can make stops at small beach spots and get off to explore at your own pace without a guide.
